As one of the UK’s leading business telecommunications companies, Exchange Communications is keen to support our own which is why we’ve decided to sponsor one of the country’s most successful brass bands.

Like Exchange Communications, the Whitburn Band has worked hard to reach the top of its game. Established in 1870, it has risen through the ranks and performed at high-profile concerts, contests, music and cultural festivals throughout Europe.

Exchange Communication's Michael McMillan tunes into the Whitburn Band

Although telecommunications would not be thought to be synonymous with a musical group, we recognised the band has similar values to ourselves. This is why we have agreed to support the group for two years and help position it as the leading brass band in the UK.

It is already number two in Scotland and seventeenth in the world so although we have some work to do, we’re confident we can help fulfil its ultimate ambition to perform on a worldwide stage and become one of the top five brass bands on the planet.

Our Operations Director, Michael McMillan has joined the band’s advisory board and one of the first changes we have seen is the band’s name. It’s now rather fittingly called the Exchange Communications Whitburn Band.

Over the next two years, Michael will support the band’s growth plans and activities. He won’t be picking up a trombone himself, nor will he be advising on phone systems or VoIP, but will look at how the band can develop as a successful business as well as a musical group.

Spokesman for the band, David Kinross has given us a warm welcome and said: “Finding a sponsor was one of the key objectives we set out as part of our recent restructure. Apart from the obvious financial benefit, we’re delighted to become associated with a rapidly growing organisation at a time where we ourselves have aggressive and ambitious plans to drive forward.

“Mike McMillan has been a real driving force in the expansion of the Exchange Communications business and we look forward to benefiting from his experience and enthusiasm. We will continue to add to our advisory team with people who have specific skills and experiences to help us achieve our goals.”
