We are delighted to be embarking on a new project to upgrade mobile connectivity beneath the River Thames!

The two pedestrian foot tunnels in London run approximately 15 metres below the river and enable an estimated 1.5 million people each year to cross between Greenwich and Woolwich.

The tunnels currently have 2G connectivity but this project in partnership with the Royal Borough of Greenwich and Vodafone to upgrade them to 4G, ensuring excellent mobile signal while walking through the 370 metre and 504 metre walkways connecting both sides of the river.

Our CEO, Tom Sime, said: “Reliable mobile connectivity in tunnels is vital for public safety and the smooth operation of these important transport links.

“Last year, we completed a landmark connectivity project at the Mersey Tunnels in Liverpool, and we are currently working on a similar upgrade for the Clyde Tunnel in Glasgow. We are delighted to bring our expertise to the two foot tunnels beneath the Thames, improving connectivity for pedestrians in the same way that we upgraded the Mersey Tunnels for motorists in Liverpool.

“When people think about 4G connectivity, they often think of buildings and public spaces such as airports and shopping centres. However, critical infrastructure, including busy pedestrian tunnels, is just as important to future-proof with the latest technology.”

We look forward to providing a further update once work has completed.
